Swasthya Sewa Utsav-2 (SSU), meant to evaluate health institution in the public sector in the State, concluded on November 22. The three day exercise was launched on November 20.
The Utsav was conducted in 1261 Government health institutions (22 district hospitals, 15 subdivisional civil hospitals, 213 community health centres, and 1011 primary health centers) by the Department of Health & Family Welfare. It is a one-of-its-kind assessment of the State’s public health facilities that seeks to assess the quality of service delivery by public health institutions at the district and sub-district levels based on standards set by the Government of India.
The Health & Family Welfare Department in association with NHM (National Health Mission), Assam with support from UNDP, India assessed health care facilities in Government institutions during the three days affairs across Assam. The assessments were on infrastructure, human resources, and service delivery. The targeted health facilities underwent internal as well as external assessments.
The team of external evaluators consisted of two assessors: a Member of Parliament, a Member of Legislative Assembly, IAS officers, IPS officers, and ACS officers, and the other was faculties, doctors, or postgraduate students of medical colleges.
A total of 430 teams were engaged during the three-day Utsav. The primary objectives of the Utsav was to provide comprehensive health care services to the community by assessing gaps therein; to make health facilities comply with IPHS 2022; to create and share sustainable practices related to key areas of concern in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes; to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control practices in public health facilities; to reduce the infant mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio, and to reduce out-of-pocket expenditures of service users.
