Assam secured the coveted first prize in Group 4 at the 2025 National Energy Conservation Awards. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony in New Delhi in connection with National Energy Conservation Day on December 14. This achievement signifies national recognition of Assam’s well-planned, timely, and effective initiatives in the field of energy conservation.
Over the past few years, Assam has undertaken several important measures to enhance energy efficiency and expand the use of renewable energy. Steps such as increased adoption of solar power, promotion of energy-efficient equipment, and installation of solar energy systems in Government offices, educational institutions, and industrial units have helped significantly reduce energy wastage. In addition, the State Government and concerned agencies have been consistently working to raise public awareness about the importance of energy conservation.
Awareness programmes conducted across schools, colleges, rural areas, and urban centres have transformed energy conservation into a social movement, encouraging citizens to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
Assam’s success at the National Energy Conservation Awards reflects the State’s firm progress towards sustainable development, environmental protection, and energy self-reliance.
Commenting on the achievement, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “This recognition reflects our collective efforts towards energy conservation and ensuring a greener future.”
To encourage States and institutions making notable contributions to conservation of energy, the Power Ministry confers the National Energy Conservation Award.
