In a significant step toward harnessing renewable energy in Assam, NLC India has officially partnered with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to form a joint venture, NIRL Assam Renewables. The new entity was formally registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on May 7, 2025.
The joint venture is structured as a collaboration between NLC India Renewables (NIRL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NLC India, and APDCL, with an equity participation ratio of 51:49, respectively. This shareholding arrangement ensures majority control remains with NIRL.
The initiative is a strategic effort to support Assam in meeting its renewable energy obligations while contributing to India’s broader transition to clean energy. The formation of the joint venture received approval from the Ministry of Coal, following concurrence from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM).
This development underscores Assam’s growing commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio and investing in clean energy solutions. It positions the State as a significant contributor to India’s renewable energy growth narrative, paving the way for a sustainable future.
