The Assam Pavilion attracted hordes of visitors, entrepreneurs and delegates, with sales and orders placed by domestic and international buyers, at last month’s 43rd India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The IITF was organised by the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) from November 14 to 27 in the national capital.
Additional Secretary, Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprise Department and Managing Director, AIIDC Ltd P. Uday Praveen inaugurated the Assam Pavilion at the IITF 2024.
This year’s event titled ‘Viksit Bharat@2047′, provided an ideal platform for Assam to showcase the vision of a Viksit Assam@2047’ (developed Assam) by focusing on strong industrial growth and development, forward-looking initiatives and transformational policies in the State.
The Assam Pavilion put up by the Department of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprise, Government of Assam had 37 stalls showcasing a wide array of products from handloom and textiles to water hyacinth and from tea to brass metal. As many as seven State Government departments and undertakings such as Assam Tourism, Assam Industrial Development Corporation, NEDFi, Directorate of Tea, Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, Directorate of Information and Public Relations and Assam Government Marketing Corporation Limited participated in the event.
The MSME sector was well represented with stalls displaying cane and bamboo, handloom and handicrafts, terracotta, woodcraft, brass metal, food processing products, and tea reflected the entrepreneurial spirit of Assam. One District One Product (ODOP) and emerging start ups from the state also took part in the fair.
One of the highlights of the Assam Pavilion was the stall on Agar and its derivatives by MJI Perfumes-Assam’s first licensed manufacturing-cum-retail unit for perfume and agar. Under the Assam Agarwood Promotion Policy 2020, the State Government supports Agar cultivation and its downstream industries from perfumes to critical chemical ingredients used in medicines, etc.
The Assam Pavilion highlighted the State’s progress in various sectors, including manufacturing, technology, tourism, and infrastructure, as well as its vision to transform into a major economic hub in Eastern India.
Tens of thousands of visitors visited the stall & witnessed Assam’s unprecedented development journey and its slew of future initiatives such as development of advanced semiconductor facilities aimed at making the State a leader in high technology manufacturing, skilled employment opportunities and technological growth.
The Pavilion also highlighted the State’s emphasis on the renewable energy sector, the establishment of the Unity Mall project to promote ODOP, and Government’s initiatives in healthcare.
A highlight was the ‘Assam Day’ event on November 22 organised by the Industries, Commerce & PE Department in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Public Enterprises and Cultural Affairs Departments Bimal Borah said: “Assam has made significant strides on the development front. The State has attracted investments to the tune of several lakh crores, including the ₹27,000 cr semiconductor unit at Jagiroad, 13,000 crore MoUs with reputed companies, the over ₹700 cr Greenfield project, etc.”
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the all-out efforts to accelerate the pace of development in Assam and the Northeast as a whole.
MP, Dilip Saikia also spoke on the occasion appreciating the Prime Minister for according importance to the State.
Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Govt. of Assam, Indira Kalita delivered the welcome address in the presence of MD, AIDC, Manabendra Pratap Singh, Vice Chairman, AIDC, Navadeep Kalita and OSD, Assam Bhawan, New Delhi, Vaishali Nayak.
Assam was adjudged as the 3rd best for Excellence in Display for Thematic Presentation at the IITF 2024. Pavilion Director, Debajit Phukan received the award from Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation, Pradeep Singh Kharola.
