Megh Maya Newar sat for his Assam Public Service Examinations in 2018 for the first time. She could not clear it then. She immediately realised that to pass civil services examinations, one is required to be focused and need the right sort of guidance. Another person who realised this reality was the MLA of 58 Tamulpur LAC Jolen Daimary. Thereafter, to have more Newars from his area crack the APSC and other competitive examinations, he decided to undertake an initiative to conduct a special examination. Those who clear these mock examinations were offered 100 per cent ‘scholarship’ for off-line and online coaching.
“A healthy society can be created through the civil services. Hence, I am now offering 100% scholarship to seven selected students of my constituency after they cleared the mock examination,” the MLA told Asom Barta. He told this newsletter that he has been carrying in his heart a dream to bring renaissance in the field of education in his area.
Newar told this reporter that she was being coached in a private civil service coaching centre in Guwahati thanks to the initiative of the Tamulpur MLA. “I am currently preparing for my APSC. All expenses related to my coaching and hostel are being provided by MLA Sir. He is large-hearted. His initiative will surely help us in serving the people in the times to come,” Newar said. She expressed satisfaction regarding her preparation and said that he was confident of clearing the APSC in his next attempt. “When I sat for my first attempt in 2018, I was hardly prepared. But now, it is different. Back then, I had no access to quality newspapers in my area. Here in Guwahati, I can easily get the best magazines and newspapers,” Newar said over phone.
“I am also thinking of providing coaching on agriculture and horticulture in my constituency,” the MLA told this reporter while adding that under the leadership of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Bodoland Territorial Region chief Pramod Boro, the region is seeing multiple projects being undertaken for better transportation, roads, health, sports facilities, modes of communication, besides initiatives in skill development.
