rime Minister Narendra Modi enthralled lakhs of his supporters in two separate rallies in Diphu and Dibrugarh. He mixed his wit and emotion to appeal to the people of Assam to carry on with peace, unity and development in the State.
In Diphu, while laying the foundation stone of several development projects, worth Rs 500 crore, the Prime Minister hoped that these will bring opportunities for skilling and employment in the region. Mr Modi also laid the foundation stone for more than 2,985 Amrit Sarovar projects. The
State Government will develop these Amrit Sarovars at a cumulative cost of around Rs. 1,150 crore.
He recalled the valour of the Ahom General Lachit Borphukan and noted the coincidence of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the 400th birth anniversary of the legendary general falling at the same time. “Lachit Borphukan’s life is an inspiration of patriotism and Rashtra Shakti. I salute this great hero of the country,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister underlined the fact that since 2014, difficulties in the North East are reducing and development is taking place at a fast clip. He termed Assam as a prosperous State in terms of the richness of cultural heritage of the tribal communities of the land. Later in the day, during a rally in Dibrugarh, he was at his lighter self while matching thousands of Bihu dancers step for step.
In his address in Dibrugarh, he spoke of the joint effort of the Centre and the State Government in bettering the lives of lakhs of people working in the tea gardens.
