Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled a grand plan to renovate the most prominent shakti peethas of the country, the Kamakhya Temple, to make it comfortable for devotees and attract pilgrims and tourists alike to the historic temple. In a video through his Twitter handle, Dr. Sarma shared the first glimpse of what the renovated shrine will look like.
He used the occasion to tweet: “Sharing a glimpse of how the renovated Maa Kamakhya corridor will look like in the near future. #NewIndia”
He also shared his vision of making the Kamakhya Temple, situated atop the Nilachal Hill range, on the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor. Dr. Sarma said that the renovated corridor work will be completed in the next two years.
The idea struck immediate resonance with even Prime Minister Narendra Modi retweeting it. Mr Modi tweeted his optimism that the step would be a revolutionary one and lead to growth in tourism and of the local economy.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also tweeted his compliments for the initiative. He felt that the renovated Maa Kamakhya corridor will enhance the spiritual experience for tourists and boost the local economy. He said that this initiative will further dignify the divine light of the sacred land of Maa Kamakhya.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha appreciated the move in his tweet terming it as a transformative step towards development of Assam which will facilitate an easy access to Maa Kamakhya Temple.
