Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam has emerged as one of the top five fastest growing States in the country with the State’s economy growing by 13.9% in the Fiscal 2023-24.
The Chief Minister was referring to the report of the Economic Survey presented in Parliament by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman a day before the presentation of the Union Budget for 2024-25.
He said that in the same period, the State’s capital growth rate was 12.84%.
“If we compare these two data mentioned in the Economic Survey with other States of the country, then it becomes clear that Assam is one of the top five fastest growing States in the country,” said the Chief Minister.
Dr. Sarma said that in 2021, the State’s bank deposits stood at ₹1.73 lakh cr, which surged to ₹2.24 lakh cr by 2023- 24.
Highlighting the credit growth, Dr. Sarma said that in 2021, banks in Assam disbursed loans worth ₹80,871 cr while the figure stood at ₹1.27 lakh cr in 2024.
