Assam Chief Minister is now a man on a mission as he has been all his public service life. Days after announcing the dates of the Advantage Assam 2.0, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and announced to the media the news that Mr Modi has accepted his invitation to inaugurate the investment summit in Guwahati on February 24, 2025.
Dr. Sarma was not to rest on that laurel alone. He stayed back in the national capital to meet Union Ministers seeking their support and presence in the extravaganza that is being planned in the State’s capital.
After meeting the Prime Minister, who is credited to have started the concept of an investor meet with his Advantage Gujarat nomenclature, the Assam Chief Minister met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Dr. Sarma took to the social media to announce thus, “We had a very positive discussion on establishing a Defence Corridor in Assam. To utilise Assam’s competitive advantage to become a defence manufacturing hub, we also deliberated on the possibility of organising a Defence Conclave in the State.”
He also met Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Puri and then took to X to write “I invited him to join us in the #AdvantageAssam Summit 2025 and also sought his assistance to strengthen and harness the full potential of Assam’s hydrocarbon industry”
Dr. Sarma met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and invited her to come to #AdvantageAssam 2025. This was followed by his meeting with Union Information and Technology and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
He later met DONER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and invited him to the summit. Not to miss out on an opening, the Chief Minister explored with Mr Scindia avenues related to the ongoing development initiative in Assam.
Dr. Sarma also met Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, the second time in a week, during his visit to New Delhi, wherein the Chief Minister sought the support of the Commerce Ministry in encouraging potential investors and stakeholders to participate in the summit.
This meeting was followed by his extending an invitation to Union Health Minister JP Nadda requesting him to attend the investor summit.
On the last day of his visit, the Assam Chief Minister met Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and extended an invite to him. Coincidentally, it was Mr Sonowal who was the Chief Minister of the State when the first Advantage Assam summit was organised in Guwahati.
Dr. Sarma and senior officials of the State also called on the Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar and sought his presence at the Assam Infrastructure and Investment Summit 2025, while seeking support from his Ministry to make the summit a grand success.
The Chief Minister did not confine himself to the corridors of power in New Delhi. He made it a point during his visit to Bhutan to invite investors from the neighbouring country to be part of Assam’s growth story.
Prime Minister of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Tobgay and others were invited by the State Government to explore opportunities for cooperation. The Bhutanese Prime Minister reciprocated the invite by thanking the State Government and the Government of India for choosing Bhutan to launch the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ roadshow series in Thimphu, specifically mentioning “among friends” in his social media post.
