Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated 181 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs), under the aegis of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, to provide “at your door” service to livestock farmers of the State.
In the programme held at the premise of the Assam Livestock and Poultry Development Corporation, Dr. Sarma also distributed sexed-sorted semen to increase the female calf population. “With the help of science, we can now determine the sex of a newborn calf through the process of artificial insemination. We have procured 1.16 lakh sexed sorted semen through the State’s funds to increase female calf population & boost dairy production,” the Chief Minister said.
Taking to twitter, Department Minister Atul Bora spoke of the emphasis the Assam Chief Minister has put on the development of the livestock sector to realise the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Assam. “Assam Govt, led by visionary leader Hon’ble CM Dr @himantabiswa, is fully committed to ensure welfare of animals by providing adequate veterinary facilities. Guided by this vision, we are striving to further strengthen the AH & Vety Dept through various initiatives,” he tweeted. The Minister described the initiative as a step towards achieving the self-reliance of the livestock farmers of the State.
Dr Sarma also inaugurated a Regional Artificial Insemination Training Institute to train professionals from Assam and the North East of India in it besides a cold storage unit built with an expenditure of ₹ 5.82 crore and established at the premise of the Corporation, by virtual mode. virtually.
