The 5th anniversary of the historic Bodo Peace Accord was celebrated with several significant initiatives dedicated to the people of the region.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated newly constructed hostels for BTR EM and MCLAs and laid the foundation stone for the administrative building of Kokrajhar University.
To honour the martyrs of the Bodoland movement, ex-gratia assistance of ₹5 lakhs was distributed to the families of 200 victims. On this occasion, cultural awards were presented to eminent artists of BTR, and two commemorative souvenirs—Educating Bodoland and 4 Years of Achievements of the Government of BTR—were released.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the significant efforts made by the “Triple Engine Government” to usher in a new era of development for the region. He spoke about the benefits of the Accord, signed in 2020 in New Delhi & how it has transformed the region, “BTR did not have a single university or medical college of its own but post the signing of the Accord, the region will now have two Universities and medical colleges each.”
Dr. Sarma also provided updates on the ongoing infrastructure developments, noting that 2,000 km of the 6,000 km of roads have already been constructed, with work on the remaining stretch to be completed gradually. “₹400 crore has been allocated to the BTR for road development this year,” he added.
Among other key announcements, the Chief Minister outlined plans for the construction of a bridge over the Pagladia River, rail connectivity between Guwahati and Gelephu via Chirang—reducing travel time between Guwahati and Chirang to just two hours—and the decision to hold the upcoming Assam Assembly session on February 17 in Kokrajhar.
