Assam, too, celebrated Janajatiya Gaurav Divas, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Assam held its State-level celebration in Dudhnoi. The event saw the presence of Cabinet Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu and Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tankeswar Rabha, who joined tribal communities in paying homage to the iconic freedom fighter and social reformer.
Sharing moments from the programme on X, Dr. Pegu reiterated the Government’s commitment towards uplifting indigenous groups. “The Centre and the State continue to stay committed to the welfare and progress of our tribal communities,” he assured.
Elsewhere, in Dhekiajuli, Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal also led the commemorations, offering tributes to Birsa Munda and reflecting on his enduring contributions. Singhal highlighted the freedom fighter’s relentless struggle to protect the dignity, rights and cultural heritage of India’s tribal communities.
Addressing the gathering, Singhal expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognising the role of tribal communities in nation-building and empowering them through a range of welfare initiatives. He noted that the observance of Janajatiya Gaurav Divas at a national scale stands as a testament to this recognition.
In Bongaigaon, MP Phani Bhusan Choudhury inaugurated the district-level programme by paying floral tribute to Birsa Munda and opening 16 stalls that showcased tribal crafts, Government services and welfare schemes. Encouraging the community to take pride in their rich identity and heritage, Choudhury emphasised the importance of education, land rights and inclusive development for tribal groups.
Across Assam, the celebrations reflected a unified spirit of respect for Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s legacy, while reaffirming continued efforts toward the advancement of tribal communities.
