Assam has witnessed remarkable economic growth, reflecting the Government’s commitment towards bringing financial stability in the State.
The State’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) at current prices is expected to rise from ₹4,10,724 crore in FY 2021–22 to ₹7,41,626 crore by FY 2025–26, marking an impressive average annual growth rate of 16.92%.
At constant prices, the GSDP has grown at an average annual rate of 8.4% during this period, underscoring robust economic resilience and sustained policy initiatives. This growth exemplifies Assam’s focus on inclusive growth, fostering socio-economic advancement for all sections of society.
A giant step towards institutional reforms resulted in Assam Government’s revenue collection via eGRAS increasing significantly from ₹10,501 cr in 2021-22 to ₹18,450 cr in 2024-25. This technology driven system has replaced the manual system with a secure online portal, integrating with banks and enabling citizens to pay taxes and fines through various digital modes like UPI and net banking.
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) procurement in Assam has significantly increased transparency and efficiency, with order value rising by 1200%, from ₹304 cr to ₹3,952 cr ranking Assam fourth in the country.
The Finance Department of Government of Assam developed Digital Infrastructure for DBT Scheme (DIDS) portal in December 2022 for disbursement of financial assistance under Orunodoi scheme. It now covers 11 State schemes, benefiting over 30 lakh individuals with monthly disbursements exceeding ₹300 cr. It operates as a scalable ‘plug and play’ platform.
Achievements So Far
Assam has been recognized as a Top Achiever in the BRAP 2022 rankings by DPIIT, Government of India and the State was awarded for Simplifying Tax Processes for Business Success highlighting the State’s exemplary efforts in making tax compliance easier and more efficient.
Meanwhile, Assam became the first North Eastern State and second in the country to institutionalize green budgeting introduced in the year 2023-24.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, reflecting on the four years of achievements of the Government of Assam recently said, “Peace, harmony between different communities and development are the three macro achievements during the last four years of the BJP Government in the State. Assam was once seen as a region beset by challenges, but now it has emerged as a beacon of opportunity, resilience and innovation for the North East and the nation.”
“Development has also received a major boost in the State with economic growth, capital formation, semiconductor facility being set up, more bridges over the Brahmaputra coming up, minimum support prices to agriculture produce, among others have ensured we have become an emergent State”, Sarma stated.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for declaring Assamese as a classical language, for his role in ensuring Charaideo Moidam get the status of UNESCO World Heritage site, taking Bihu and Jhumoir to both national and international level, giving the ‘Gamosa’ a position of prominence by using it regularly and spending a night at the Kaziranga National Park, etc. “Modi dangoriya has taken Assam’s identity to the global stage.”
According to the Chief Minister, completion of nine years of the BJP-led alliance in the State was indeed a unique landmark and Assam today is a completely different State from what it was before. “The progress of the State during the last four years is a collective achievement of the government, civil society and the people of Assam, whose blessings we seek, so that we can continue to serve them,” he concluded.
