In a move to take skilling of Assam youth to a greater height, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 8 inaugurated skill training centres to train 5,750 youths under the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) under 59 vocations at the programme held at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.
In the same programme, the Chief Minister also flagged off Skill Yatra to generate skill awareness programmes initially in four districts through skill vans. The districts are Kamrup, Nalbari, Darang and Morigaon.
Dr. Sarma also launched a scheme namely “Indigenous Skill Training by Gurus”. Under the scheme, 15 districts will be covered, initially, to undertake the programme and 10 candidates will be selected from each district.
Besides, the Chief Minister launched the process of releasing stipend through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to 500 trainees under Jal Jeevan Mission and Assam Skill Development Mission. He inaugurated a training centre set by Schwing Stetter. As a part of the programme, 50 trainees from ITI Guwahati will be trained for the job of concrete Pump Operator.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that inauguration of training centres in Assam is an important development for skilling the youth of the State and making them fit for employment as well as for self-employment.
The Chief Minister interacted with mask making artistes, with tour operator training facilitators at Kaziranga National Park and bell metal artisans, virtually on the occasion.
