In yet another addition towards the infrastructural development of Guwahati, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma recently inaugurated the Bhagadatta Flyover-2 at Downtown Point of the city. The 660-metre-long, four-lane flyover was completed in a record time breaking of nine months, much ahead of its original 18-months deadline.
Built at the cost of ₹112 cr, the flyover was built using advanced composite structure technology such as wide service roads, modern LED lighting, dedicated footpaths, parking bays and has been named after King Bhagadatta of ancient Kamarupa. The earlier flyover at the Dispur Super Market area has now been renamed Bhagadatta Flyover-1.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said that the project is part of a broader initiative to ease traffic congestion and strengthen urban infrastructure in Guwahati.
The Chief Minister also announced several upcoming infrastructure projects across the city, including flyovers and ramps at Ganeshguri, Arya Nagar, Maligaon and Radha Govinda Baruah Road as well as an elevated corridor at Bharalumukh, “The bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati will be dedicated to public in January 2026.’’
He also stated that the Cycle Factory and Bharalumukh flyovers are expected to be completed by February 2026, while the Chandmari flyover is likely to be ready by April 2026.
The event concluded with the felicitation of engineers and officials involved in the successful completion of the Bhagadatta Flyover-2 within the stipulated time.
