Indrajit Sharma, a resident of Dibrugarh, is preparing for the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations after completing his B.Tech. Upon learning about the Government of Assam’s Education Loan Subsidy Scheme 2.0, he applied immediately.
“We were eagerly waiting for the Abhinandan scheme. Through the social media handle X, I got to know about this initiative and applied right away. This kind of education loan subsidy motivates us. I will use this subsidy for the loan we took in December 2020 during my B.Tech, which will provide relief to my family,” Indrajit told Asom Barta.
Notably, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to inform about the education loan subsidy taken up under this scheme to ease the financial burden of students and their parents, “Under this initiative, our State Government will provide a subsidy of up to ₹50,000.
Bharat Pradhan, an MBBS student at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital is another applicant of the scheme. He came across the initiative through a newspaper advertisement and decided to apply.
“I am planning to use this education loan subsidy for the loan I took for my MBBS course. This is the first time I am applying for a loan subsidy from the Government of Assam, and I hope to reap the benefits from it,” Bharat shared his emotions with this reporter.
Similarly, a resident of Morigaon (who preferred to remain anonymous) expressed that the Abhinandan scheme will greatly assist in repaying the education loan taken for pursuing a B.Ed. course, “This initiative from the Assam Government is highly appreciated. It will offer significant relief to the families of students, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The scheme will be a blessing and help fulfil the dreams & aspirations of the students.”
Most of the beneficiaries whom this newsletter spoke to were of the opinion that students must apply to avail benefits offered in order to shape their careers while reducing to some degree the burden on the earning members of the family.
Some eligibility criteria have been laid down for availing the benefits of this scheme. Subject to these conditions, those willing can apply for the benefits of the scheme.
