In a bid to honour the legacy of the great freedom fighter and patriot Tarun Ram Phookun and spread awareness about his noble ideals and contributions, the Government of Assam has grandly observed Deshbhakti Divas across the state. In connection with the special day, an open quiz competition was organized under the aegis of Directorate of Information and Public Relations on July 27 at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra. The event saw the enthusiastic participation of 348 teams (approximately 1,500 participants) from within and outside the state. Minister of Information and Public Relations, Pijush Hazarika graced the occasion with his presence. Since 2021, under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Government has been observing Deshbhakti Divas commemorating the death anniversary of Tarun Ram Phookun. “It is crucial for our younger generation to know that Tarun Ram Phookun had once mortgaged his own house to organize the historic Pandu Congress Session an unmatched contribution to India’s freedom movement,” the Minister shared in his social media. Meanwhile, Deshbhakti Divas were celebrated in various parts of Assam.
