A Butterfly Museum-cum-Conservation and Research Centre was inaugurated at Ultapani Deep inside Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park near Indo-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar.
Inaugurating the centre, Minister UG Brahma said, “It is a great initiative of the Government of BTR to conserve the precious butterflies found inside the Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park. Researchers had discovered over 200 species in the Bishmuri-Ultapani-Saralpara stretch.”
He urged all to take efforts in conserving these butterflies.
On the occasion, the newest addition to Assam’s National Park list Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park was also formally inaugurated.
CEM of Bodoland Territorial Council Pramod Boro attending the inaugural ceremony stated, “Home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna, Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park will serve as a vital sanctuary for wildlife, support ecological balance, and foster eco-tourism that benefits local communities of BTR. My gratitude to Hon’ble CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for spearheading this significant initiative.”
The ceremony, held at the Dighli Forest Camp Complex, was attended by local residents, students, forest officials, and environmental enthusiasts.
It is to be mentioned here that this park, spread over 316 sq. km, is part of the greater Manas conservation landscape and connects four other parks in the region. With this, Assam now has the second highest National Parks in the country.
