A nine-member delegation from Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City was recently on a six-day visit to Assam and neighbouring Meghalaya.
The delegation visited the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and the Hayagriva Madhava Mandir at Hajo. On the second day, they visited Assam State Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Umananda Guwahati Tea Auction Centre and the Royal Bhutan Consul General’s Office.
On June 10, the delegation led by Arun Kapur, comprising former Chief Justice Tshering Wangchuk, Member of Parliament in Bhutan Tashi Wangyal and members of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) Core Working Group called on Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and discussed among others enhancing Assam-Bhutan cooperation, strengthening institutional and people-to-people ties, particularly to benefit youth and support long-term development.
Post the meeting, the Chief Minister posted in X, “An excellent meeting with the team of Gelephu Mindfulness City. A visionary project of His Majesty, the Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, it will usher in a new wave of prosperity in Bhutan and will immensely benefit Assam.”
On June 11, the delegation visited the sacred Kamakhya Temple, Pandu Port and later engaged with an insightful discussion with the students of Royal Global University where the talks held on the rich shared cultural and geographical heritage between Assam and Bhutan and opportunities to enhance economic and people-to-people connectivity between the two neighbours.
Both parties discussed the potential benefits arising from stronger collaboration, including avenues for economic growth fostered through the unique opportunities presented by Gelephu Mindfulness City. The delegation emphasized the importance of sustainable development as a guiding principle for joint initiatives, aiming to create long-term, mutually beneficial outcomes for Assam and Bhutan.
