In a significant milestone for Assam’s agricultural sector, the State has successfully achieved 100% of its paddy procurement target for the first cycle of the 2024–25 Kharif Marketing Season. A total of 6 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured from farmers across the State through 169 active procurement centres.
Farmers are receiving ₹2,550 per quintal for their produce—comprising the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,300 from the Union Government and an additional ₹250 per quintal provided by the State Government. The procurement process involves multiple agencies, including the Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, Food Corporation of India (FCI), NAFED and the Assam State Agricultural Marketing Council. Only registered farmers are eligible to sell at the designated procurement centres.
Speaking on the achievement, the Chief Minister shared on social media, “We promised to procure paddy from our farmers at fair and assured prices and we delivered accordingly. Assam has created history by procuring 6 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in the very first cycle of the Kharif season. We have released ₹1,380 cr as MSP to farmers. This is a true reflection of our Government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural community.”
Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai monitored the procurement process. Sanjay Kishan, Chairman of Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, also played a vital role in the process.
In a recent post, he noted that on June 14 Makum procurement centre in his constituency of Tinsukia had already achieved 93.21% of its target.
This coordinated effort, driven by the Chief Minister, key departmental ministers, and dedicated officials and staff has earned widespread praise and stands as a model of effective governance and farmer welfare in Assam.
