Over the last four years, the Government of Assam, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been relentlessly pursuing its commitment to employment generation with an extensive focus on transparency, efficiency and inclusive development. The State has witnessed a historic recruitment drive across various departments surpassing the Government’s pledge to fill up or create one lakh Government jobs.
As of June 2025, a total of 1,20,840 Government jobs have been secured under the current administration, marking a significant milestone in Assam’s governance and public administration history. This achievement not only underscores the Government’s commitment to employment generation but also strengthens institutional capacity across critical sectors like health, education, veterinary services, and tourism.
The month of June alone witnessed the appointment of 400 health officers, a crucial addition to Assam’s healthcare sector. These new officers are expected to bolster rural and urban health services, ensuring better medical outreach and contributing to public health goals across the State.

In the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, 443 Veterinary Field Assistants were appointed to enhance animal healthcare and livestock development programmes. Their role is essential in supporting rural livelihoods, particularly in agrarian communities dependent on dairy and livestock.
Further expanding employment across specialized domains, 12 Tourism Development Officers were appointed in the Tourism Department. These officers are expected to play a pivotal role in promoting Assam’s rich heritage, natural beauty, and cultural diversity — a move aimed at unlocking the State’s vast tourism potential and creating allied economic opportunities.
In the education sector, the Government has continued its investment in academic excellence and teachers training. Twenty-three lecturers were inducted into the District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET), while three Assistant Directors in the rank of Assistant Professors joined the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). These appointments are key to strengthening teacher education, educational research, and policy implementation across Assam.
Each recruitment has followed a merit-based, transparent selection process, setting a new benchmark in public hiring and boosting the morale of thousands of aspirants across the State.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has time and again reiterated that employment is not merely about numbers but about creating meaningful livelihoods and a capable workforce that can serve Assam’s people effectively. The Government’s multi-sectoral recruitment approach reflects this vision — with a strong emphasis on capacity-building, service delivery, and long-term development.
During the recent recruitment drive, the Chief Minister announced that the State Government will launch a mega recruitment drive on coming October 10 to appoint 40,000 youths across various departments.
“After fulfilling our commitment of providing over one lakh Government appointments, we are moving ahead with the target of 1.60 lakh total recruitments by October 10 through a transparent, merit-based process,” the Chief Minister stated.
